Are you looking for the best parental control app? Check out OurPact! (Check out GIVEAWAY at the bottom) This year my oldest daughter started Junior High and after a few months… we succumbed to the idea of giving her a cell phone. Phones are an amazing technology and bring so much good to us and to our children… yet there is also access to so much that our children have no need for. As well as so much to see if real life that brings their eyes up from their tiny little screens. I have been searching and searching for the best parental control app for my children as well as myself. I am so tired of seeing EVERYONE with their eyes glued to a screen. It is an addiction and we need to be aware and stop it before it is too late.
A 2016 survey from Common Sense Media found that half of teenagers felt addicted to their devices, and 78 percent checked their devices at least hourly. Seventy-two percent of teens felt pressured to respond immediately to texts, notifications and social media messaging. A 2015 Pew Research report found that 73 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds had their own smartphones or had access to one, and 24 percent said they were online “almost constantly.”
We as parents trying to set healthy guidelines for smartphone use may ourselves be struggling with similar issues: The 2015 Pew survey found that 46 percent of American adults believed they could not live without their smartphones. Teens aren’t the only ones we need to worry about when it comes to smartphone addiction — adults should consider their habits as well.
Like I said during my research I was also looking for something that could also help my husband and I.
I have had to tell my daughters, “turn off your phones your friends are here.” One of my daughters stopped sitting with a group of kids at school because she said all they do is play on their phones during their lunch time. I was so sad to hear this. Lunch time use to be my favorite time, social time!
OurPact: The Best Parental Control App
I was on the search for something that stopped my child’s phone so I did not have to do it. There was no fights or arguments the phone was just shut off. I also wanted a feature that allowed me to ALWAYS know what apps are on my child’s devices. I have heard too many stories of mothers finding certain apps that look appropriate but then are completely inappropriate once inside the app. OurPact has so many amazing features that I just had to try. I fell in love with these few.
SCREEN TIME ALLOWANCE
This is one of my favorite features on OurPact. Is there anything worse than someone at the dinner table playing with their phone as the family is trying to talk about their day? I want my children to be engaged in discussion and to learn early on that it is rude and disrespectful to be on your phone at certain times for example the dinner table.
Allowance lets you set a daily screen time limit for your children to manage independently (during permitted times, of course!). For example, you could set a 2 hour daily limit for weekdays, a 3 hour limit for the weekend, shut off during dinner time, and school hours. Outside of the bedtime schedule, the child device will remain in a blocked state, and it becomes your child’s responsibility to ‘play’ and ‘pause’ their allowance timer in OurPact Jr. to unlock their apps independently.
This feature is only available on the OurPact Premium.
This is the screen where you can change your allowances/schedules. For instance we have bedtime from 9pm-7am Sunday through Thursday. Weekends we have allowed more time.
Scottee’s phone so she is aware how much time she has on OurPact Jr.
APP LIST & APP RULES
OurPact Premium allows you to view a list of all the apps installed on your child’s device, which you can then choose to manage individually according to three rules: “Always Blocked” (eg. social media), “Always Allowed” (eg. educational apps), or “Blocked by OurPact” (eg. social media or games – any apps you want available only when allowance is in play mode or you have allowed access with OurPact).
I prefer to set the App Store to be ‘Always Blocked’ for my children. This way my child has to come to me any time they want to install a new app, so I can review it together and decide if it’s an appropriate, and you can set it’s App Rule in your parent app.
MANUAL GRANTS & BLOCKS
Family Locator allows you to monitor your child’s device location from within your dashboard, which is a great way to keep tabs on your children. Another benefit is it can be a streamline communication (no more back-and-forth coordinating pickups and making sure they arrive safe). I use the Find my Phone app but this has allowed me to just use one app for everything.
OurPact‘s Web Filter blocks access to inappropriate adult content on all browsers on child devices automatically (eg. Safari, Chrome, or in-app browsers – think Facebook and Instagram). This is genius.
Did you know?
