We love the holidays. Food is what sparks most of my childhood memories and what constitutes most of our traditions. Our sugar cookies are quite the hit everywhere we bring them to. They are quite the labor of love as well. These sugar cookies take ALL day and make a GINORMOUS mess. We make them every Christmas season and would deliver them as gifts. Everyone begs for this recipe. Look no further for THE BEST sugar cookie recipe there is.

1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar                                      1/2 tsp. almond flavoring

1 cup butter or margarine                                               2 1/2 cups of flour

1 egg                                                                                     1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. vanilla                                                                        1 tsp. cream of tartar

2 Tb butter                                                                           3 cups Powder sugar

2 Tb milk                                                                               1 tsp. vanilla

1/2  tsp. almond flavoring

Mix sugar and butter.  Add egg and flavorings; mix thoroughly.  Mix dry ingredients together.  Blend in dry ingredients with wet. Refrigerate 2 to 3 hr.

Heat oven to 375*.  Divide dough in half and roll 3/16″ thick on lightly floured countertop.  Cut with cookie cutter; sprinkle with sugar.  Place on lightly greased baking sheet.  Bake 7 to 8 min.  Makes 5 doz. 2 to 2 1/2″ cookies

For softer cookies cook on 350* and check after 6 minutes.

Mix all frosting ingredients together.  I prefer to add anything more depending on consistency as well as to taste.  Wait to frost until cookies are completely cooled.  You can add food coloring depending on which holiday you are making them for.
